Sports Betting and Online Casino Law in Australia

September 17th, 2014 at 12:14 PM

Australia does not have any clear laws regarding online gambling, but the most important online casino law in Australia is the Interactive Gambling Act (IGA), which was passed in 2001. While this law does not target individual players, it makes it illegal for operators of gambling businesses to offer casino gaming services and advertise their services to Australian citizens. At the same time, it is perfectly legal for Australian gambling companies to operate sports betting sites and online lottery services in the country.

Bettors have two options—they can either visit land-based betting shops, most of which are owned and operated by Tabcorp Holdings, or they can sign up at licensed online sports betting sites. Aussie bettors can also find gambling sites that offer online poker and online casino games along with online sports betting services, which they can download now.

Is it Legal to Play Online Casino Games?

Every Australian casino player eager to play real money casino games online asks this question, and the answer is both “yes” and “no.” The law books do not say anything about the legality of individual Australian players gambling at online casinos that care to accept them. As mentioned above, they only make it illegal for operators to offer games such as roulette, poker, blackjack, and online slots to Australian citizens. Under these circumstances, Australian citizens are more or less free to register real play accounts at online casinos licensed in remote jurisdictions.

Which is Your Favorite Slot Machine?

September 15th, 2014 at 8:19 AM
By Dan Benton

I know which ones are mine: those made by Sweden's Net Entertainment, a dedicated developer of video slots in a great variety of themes, shapes and sizes. I am especially fond of Gonzo's Quest, a 3D slot with great graphics and 'Avalanche' (try it), EggOMatic (an innovative slot machine with great 3D graphics and a really fun gameplay) and Hall of Gods, a Norse adventure with a progressive jackpot associated with it. I can't help it, I have a thing for Norse mythology.

You may ask: where do you play these superb games for real money? The answer is: nowhere. These are my personal favorites, I only play these games for fun. When it comes to playing slots for winning, I choose places with great bonuses and games with lots of bonus features – and these places not necessarily coincide with places that offer access to my favorite slots.

USA 13/8 to Be Top North American Team at the World Cup

May 13th, 2014 at 7:42 AM
By Sports Media 101

The World Cup is almost upon us and there are plenty of betting markets to whet the appetite from outright winner and top scorer all the way down to lowest scoring team and player of the tournament. There’s lots of value to be had in some of the less known markets and Easyodds.com football tipster has picked out which nation he thinks will go furthest from each continent.

Top South American Team

Uruguay @ 14/1BET NOW

This is perhaps the hardest selection to pick with the World Cup winner likely to come from South America. Brazil look a touch short at 11/10 given they are likely to face tough opponents as early as the last 16 with Spain, Holland or Chile the most likely sides to face them while Argentina have not gone beyond the quarter-finals since 1990 and don’t appeal at 7/4. Therefore I have plumped for Uruguay at a huge price 14/1. I expect Oscar Tabarez’s side to qualify from Group D where Colombia or Ivory Coast should meet them and they certainly have the quality to negotiate either of those sides. The fixtures get trickier from then on but with Luis Suarez, Edinson Cavani et al in their ranks they can beat anyone on their day.

World Class Athletes are Always Looking for a Competitive Edge

May 12th, 2014 at 4:59 AM
By Sports Media 101

With the grand prix well under way, horse racing season upon us and other major sporting events just around the corner such as The Commonwealth Games this July, it is an important time for many sports players and fans world over. Often we see players and fans taking all sorts of weird and wonderful measures to give their side the competitive edge, from strange diets and exercise regimes, prayers and wishes to psychic consultations; often no stone is left unturned in the goal for that next win.

Winning Matters

Since organized sports first began in Ancient Greece with the invention of have gladiator fighting and athletics there have been various superstitions and rituals associated with gaining good luck to win. At the heart of organized sports is the competitive nature of individuals to do better than the opposing team or player and as such, winning does matter to both players and fans. Stating that it is just a game or something where people hit a ball around a field a few times is not going to go very far with an avid sports lover.
